There are plenty of promises we make to other people. Either our partners, parents, friends, or coworkers. They are a kind of declaration that you will do something or stand by something always. It strengthens your bond with the other person. It helps you grow together, only if you keep the promise.
But what about your bond with yourself? Are there any promises you made to yourself? Were you able to honor them?
As much as it is necessary for you to have a strong relationship with other people, it is important to have a stronger relationship with your inner self. You should make certain promises to yourself that will help you build the confidence you need and be a better version of yourself. You should hold yourself accountable for these promises so whenever you think of breaking them, you’re reminded that how important it is for you to stay true to yourself.
Some of the promises you should make to yourself are written below. These are just the starters, you can add to them as you please and according to your situation in life. These will help you enhance your confidence along with strengthening the bond you have with your inner self.
Promise yourself to walk away from things you don’t deserve
Never accept things that are not your standard. No one deserves a mediocre life, job, or love. Decide what you get in life, take control of things. Simply walk away when you think things are not how you want them to be. Do not settle for less.
Promise yourself to forgive yourself for your past failures and move on with a positive mind
We all make mistakes, take wrong decisions in life, or just fail to do things when they were needed to be done. These should be taken as lessons for life. Instead of constantly beating yourself because of certain mistakes in the past, move on to better things. Accept that you cannot control the things that are already done. You can just learn and move ahead. Have a positive mindset.
Promise yourself to be kind to yourself the same way you are with others.
Don’t forget to be kind and gentle with yourself. It’s one thing to be kind to everyone else, it’s another to be kind to yourself. The way you treat yourself will affect how other people treat you. So, always be kind to yourself.
Promise yourself to do more of what makes you happy
Your happiness matters the most. I know it’s really satisfying to see the other person happy because of you. But it is also important to keep yourself happy. Do everything that makes you happy, even if making other people happy makes you happy, Do it. Hold onto things that make you happy, do more of things that make you happy, even if it means you doing it alone.
Promise yourself to live a life that feels right to you irrespective of how anybody else thinks.
Stay true to your standards and always do what you feel right. Don’t pay attention to what others think, if you feel something is not right, stand up for it, raise your voice against it and take all the necessary steps to prevent it.
Promise yourself to try to be the best version of yourself no matter how much time it takes
Seeking perfection is something very unrealistic, don’t expect yourself to be perfect. Instead, promise yourself to try and be the best version of yourself. Improve every day and take small steps whenever you can. Also, don’t be impatient, give yourself as much time as you need. You can’t succeed immediately but show determination.
Promise yourself to let the toxic thoughts and people go from your life
Detach yourself from the people that no longer feel healthy to be around. Eliminate the thoughts that create negative energy within you. Recognize what’s best for you.
Promise yourself to surround yourself with positive thoughts and energy
Be determined to create a healthy and positive environment around yourself. This will help you and the people around you lead a much happier life.
Promise yourself to take care of your mind and body always.
Take good care of your mind as it’s the place you live the most in, make sure it is a happy place. Inculcate a healthy routine in your life so that your body is also fit and healthy. Both mind and body are dependent on each other. Don’t forget any one of them or the other will suffer.
Promise yourself to not tolerate any kind of discrimination whether it is to you or anybody else.
If you tolerate discrimination against you or anyone else, you are more at fault than the person who is differentiating between people. Promise yourself to never tolerate any kind of discrimination based on caste, religion, the color of skin, background, or sexuality. Treat everyone equally as they are also human like me and you.

Bad things happen, to every one of us, but it shouldn’t bring you down. Always look for the positive side. If you fail at doing something, think of it as another opportunity of doing the same thing differently, enhancing your capabilities. Everything happens for a reason, you just have to look for the right reasons.

Every human on this planet has the choice of who they want to be, with whoever they want to be and do whatever they want to do. Promise yourself to not judge anyone’s preferences to live their life and embrace their uniqueness with open arms.

You are unique in your way, no one can be you and you cannot be exactly like someone else. Accept that. Don’t compare yourself with anybody else because their story and your story is not the same. It may seem like the other person has it easy but you don’t know the struggle they’ve been through to be where they are right now. Every story is different, so are the people. You are unique in your own way.
Promise yourself to fight back harder than ever
When life gets hard and tries to bring you down, promise yourself to fight harder than before. Always keep fighting and never give up. Face the difficulties with braveness and don’t let it pull you down. Fighting is what makes you alive and different.
Promise yourself to laugh louder and longer
Embrace your happiness. Do things that make you laugh. Laugh louder and longer thinking of it as your last day. Laugh at every chance you get. Bring joy into your life without any fear of judgment.
Promise yourself to be responsible for your life and not hold anybody else accountable for it
Your life is your responsibility, you make decisions for your life and you reap the benefits of those decisions. Whatever happens, don’t give control of your life and decisions to anybody else and don’t hold anybody else accountable for the things you face in life. You always have a choice to feel certain things, to face certain situations, and to be involved in certain decisions. Take responsibility for yourself and live independently.
Promise yourself to be mindful of what goes inside your mind and body
We often take care of what we eat in a day, try to have a healthy diet, and be our fittest self. While taking care of our body we forget to be mindful of what goes inside our mind. Yes, it is important to feed your brain with things that help it to grow. Positive thoughts, happy memories, and lot’s of positive energy are what your brain needs. Try to avoid any toxic thoughts and negative energy by replacing it with good thoughts about how grateful you are.
Promise yourself to be kind and polite to everyone you meet
The world needs kind people. You don’t know how much it affects someone’s day or life when you be kind or polite to them. Sometimes, that is the only good thing happening to them throughout the day. Promise yourself to try to be kind to every person around you, make their day a little tolerable.
Promise yourself to listen to your heart more.
That goes without saying. Do what your heart desires. When you’re happy within, you spread happiness around you too. Fulfill all your wishes. Everything that makes your heart happy, DO IT.
Promise yourself to celebrate and appreciate yourself every chance you get.
You’re never gonna get your life again. Cherish every day your life and enjoy each day as it is your last. Always get up in the morning with a happy mood and an aim to make the most out of the day. Appreciate yourself for all the things that you do, celebrate each victory no matter how big or small, you deserve it.
