Although it seems very funny but our brain can get foggy. For those who don’t know, Brain fog is the inability to have a sharp memory or to lack a sharp focus. It can prevent you from concentrating, recalling memories and lead to mental fatigue. So it is necessary to take care of your mind for it to function for you. Simply put, take care of your mind and it will take care of you.
Our mind is a very powerful tool. It can take us places if we use it in a proper way and take steps to keep it healthy. Neglecting to care about your brain can turn out as trouble.
Your brain is what makes you think and do what you’re doing. Even while reading this blog post, it is your brain that is sending signals to you eyes to read and then interpreting what’s written. So don’t you think it should be given great importance in your life? It’s not that tough nurturing your brain, you just have to be thoughtful while doing anything. Let’s say, you have to take care of your brain by using your brain.
Here are quick ways, you can keep that mind young and healthy so you don’t suffer from any unwanted issues related to your brain.
1. Quality sleep
Your brain works more than you can think of, on an average a person has 70000 thoughts in a day. Too much work? So it is clearly important to give it a proper rest. There cannot be enough emphasis given to a good night’s sleep. We all know someone who gets grumpy because they couldn’t sleep well leading to having a bad day. We certainly are not aiming to be like that person. You must rest your body for at least 6 to 8 hours at night. A proper sleep will help you be active and will improve your mood. It will also boost your productivity at work or school.
2. Digital detox
This may sound impossible, Especially when everything you need and want is online. While being active online is a very great way to stay connected, there is a lot of negativity present on the internet which you don’t need to feed your brain. Regular time off of digital media or social media can be very helpful for the well being of your brain. It can be some hours in a day, one or more day and a week too. A week without your phone and internet is unimaginable though, start small, by few hours in a day. You will eventually feel better and will value your time off social media. Try distracting your mind. If you can’t fight the urge to use your phone, you can exercise, go for a walk, let your creative juices flow or meditate.
3. Meditation
Sitting by yourself, eyes closed, focusing on your breathing is the best way to nurture your mind. Meditation allows you to process your thoughts and feelings. You will be a lot more calm and composed when you start meditating. Just starting by 5 mins a day can do wonders do your brain. All the negative thoughts would disappear and you will be able to have a positive outlook on life. It will be tough initially, your mind will wander and drift off to somewhere else or maybe you fall asleep. It is important to guide yourself back to focusing on yourself and eliminating any unnecessary thoughts.
4. Exercising
Moving your body also keeps your brain active. Exercise increases blood-flow and provides accurate oxygen to your brain. You can start by a 5 minute workout so your body can cope, then gradually increase the time and difficulty. Your body and brain will both be healthy and young. It will also make you feel more active and secrete ‘feel good’ hormones and builds confidence.
5. Healthy food
What goes into your body, also affects your brain’s working. Food rich in vitamins and minerals strengthens the brain and makes it sharp. Food with omega 3 fatty acids, full of nutrients & green leafy vegetables are really good for your brain as well your body. There are nuts and seeds that also nourishes the brain like Walnut, pumpkin seeds etc. Avoid excess consumption of junk and oily food. It will make you lethargic and will not let your brain function properly, rather make it more lazy and stops growth.
6. Keep improving
Learn and experience new things, this way you will be able to enhance your brain’s capabilities. Think of it as a challenge to your brain. You will be able to perform better and once you’re open to learn, you will be able to see plenty of opportunities around you. Inculcate a new habit, learn a new language, try your hands at drawing or painting, take up a new degree course. Possibilities are endless. You just have to look for it and approach it with an open mind.
7. Mental Workout
Physical exercise is important but we often overlook that our mind needs to be exercised too. Another way to challenge your brain and keep it young is to think outside the box or give new perspective to things in your life. This will happen when your mind is used to thinking critically. Be updated with the current happenings around you, play crossword puzzles, solve riddles, watch thought provoking movies and read as much as you can. Your brain will never overflow with knowledge, it will always have space for new thoughts and information. This way your brain will stay fresh and work efficiently for you.
8. Avoid alcohol or drugs
This is not only to keep your mind healthy but also for your body. Excess consumption of any substance is not good for your physical as well as mental health. It will reduce your capacity to think properly. Overdose can also lead to serious damage to your brain. Try to stay away from alcohol and drugs as much as possible if you want to live a happy and healthy life. Your body and brain will thank you.
9. Check out blogs and podcasts
We all need some inspiration in life, and it may be possible that we find it tough to think from a different perspective. This is where blogs and podcasts come into play. There are a lot of blogs on the internet that focus on mental health and how you can increase your brain’s capabilities.
